I have met sooo many people that have some discomfort in the lower back, running down the buttocks to the back of the leg, calf, heel. Usually traced to the sciatic nerve. Mild discomfort to shooting pain. As you already know I am not an advocate for pharmaceuticals unless absolutely necessary, and I have found acupuncture to be great for relief, and self manipulation through acupressure in between.
The below are some points you can try. Start with gentle pressure, and don’t over do it to the point where you now feel sore where you are pressing!
These points should be pressed in times of stress, knee pain, back pain, muscle pain and when one has painful feet whilst standing. These points are on both legs and extend from the ankle to the knee.
For these leg points we should use only the fingers.
For best results press down and inward gradually, towards the center of your pelvis, and hold firmly for a couple of minutes, then release gradually. Acupressure point location for B 48 is one to two finger widths outside the large bony area at the base of the spine (sacrum) and midway between the top of the hipbone (iliac crest) and the base of the buttocks.
I also love using a foam roller to press on the spots above. I first used a roller for myofacial tissue relief (relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles)
AND equally important to me, the good old heating pad!
